Happy Thanksgiving from OTLA

As the leaves turn and the crisp autumn air settles across Ontario, Thanksgiving offers us a moment to reflect personally and professionally on the shared values that bind us all together in a world that seems to be increasingly divided.

At its core, Thanksgiving is about gratitude. OTLA’s membership is made up of some of the very best lawyers in the province: those who have dedicated their careers to advocate for injured people each day. We witness the resilience of injury survivors, the tireless dedication of treatment teams, the trial successes of our colleagues and in the willingness of people to stand up for what’s right.

We spearhead lobby efforts that support legislative change. We create public awareness of important issues affecting Ontarians.

As we gather with friends and loved ones this Thanksgiving, we remember that long weekends bring about an increase in preventable accidents, especially on our roads. Each year, we see the devastating impact that impaired driving, distracted driving and unsafe conditions can have on an individual and their family.

We encourage everyone to:

  • Select a designated driver in advance
  • ensure that your guests have a safe way home if you are the social host
  • Stay alert while driving – especially at dusk
  • Ensure that you have sufficient no-fault benefits through your auto insurance
  • Ensure that you have sufficient liability insurance through your auto insurer

Taking these easy steps can ensure that your weekend is enjoyed safely and responsibly, and that you will be protected in the event that the unthinkable happens to you or a loved on.

Wishing you a warm, joyful and safe Thanksgiving!
