Bonn Law Promotes Bicycle Safety in Belleville

On June 20, 2026, Bonn Law held its annual Helmets on Kids event at the Children’s Safety Village in Belleville, Ontario. Inspired by OTLA, this year’s event was presented in partnership with McDougall Insurance, ASR Group–Redpath, the Brain Injury Association Quinte District (BIAQD) and the Children’s Safety Village, bringing together local organizations committed to improving the safety and well-being of children in the community.

The free community event welcomed local families and children for a morning focused on bicycle safety, injury prevention and education. Volunteers and community partners worked together to ensure every child received a properly fitted bicycle helmet, a bell for their bicycle and an opportunity to learn about the importance of wearing a helmet every time they ride.

This year’s event was another great success, with 162 helmets distributed to local youth. By providing free helmets and professional fittings, the program helps remove financial barriers for families while encouraging safe cycling habits that can significantly reduce the risk of serious head injuries.

For Bonn Law, hosting Helmets on Kids is about more than distributing helmets—it’s about investing in the health and safety of our community. Led by OTLA Past President Kris Bonn and supported by office manager Stephanie Hiscock, Bonn Law has been involved in community bicycle safety initiatives since 2015. Over the past 11 years, the program has provided more than 2,200 helmets to local youth in need, helping thousands of children ride more safely and giving parents peace of mind.

The event also highlighted the strength of community partnerships. With the support of local businesses, non-profit organizations, and dedicated volunteers, families were able to access important safety resources in a welcoming and family-friendly environment.

One of the most memorable aspects of the day was the heartfelt appreciation expressed by attendees. Many parents, grandparents and community members took the time to thank organizers and sponsors for continuing to offer the program, sharing how encouraging it is to see local businesses actively supporting the safety of children. Their comments reinforced the value of community-driven initiatives and demonstrated the positive impact that collaboration can have on local families.

Every child deserves the opportunity to ride safely. Through Helmets on Kids, we’re able to work with outstanding community partners to provide proper helmet protection, educate families, and help prevent life-changing injuries before they happen,” shares Kris Bonn, principal lawyer at Bonn Law.

The smiles on children’s faces as they selected and had their new helmets professionally fitted served as a reminder of why the program remains so important. Bonn Law is grateful to its partners, volunteers and community members whose continued support has helped make Helmets on Kids a trusted and successful community event year after year.
