Updated LAT Statistics

OTLA continues to make strategic Freedom of Information requests to the government.  As part of these requests, we recently received updated Licence Appeal Tribunal statistics.

Previously, the LAT stats were published in the December 2018 issue of The Litigator. Click here to view.

As a result of our latest FOI, the LAT provided updated data about:

Here are the three main takeaways from the updated stats:

  1. The number of Applications, though somewhat variable, continues to climb
  2. The time between events has generally continued to climb
  3. Certain insurers (like Aviva) continue to make up a disproportionately large share of disputes

Here are the actual results:

  1. Applications are included in the quarter in which the case conference occurred
  2. Applications are included in the quarter in which the hearing occurred
  3. Applications are included in the quarter in which the decision was released

OTLA has been engaging with the LAT and other stakeholders in an attempt to improve the LAT and its processes. See more HERE.

Automobile insurance and no fault benefits are about consumer protection.  505 days between Application and Decision is simply not good enough.  Justice delayed is justice (and consumer protection) denied.
